Loss of a Friend

The children and staff at Jully Orphanage are mourning the passing of Lobenson, one of the newest children to join the orphanage. Lobenson was 4 years old, turning 5 in June.

While the childhood mortality rate in Haiti has been improving, it is still the highest in the western hemisphere. The mortality rate for children under 5 is 8%, compared to under 1% in the US.

Despite the current difficulty in providing for 27 children, Jully Orphanage could not turn away three more children left abandoned. Malnourished and sick, it has been a long journey for the siblings. You would hardly recognize the youngest, Emanuella, had you seen her three months ago. Her two older brothers are doing wonderfully, enjoying their new friends at the orphanage. It may still take some time to adjust to their new lifestyle, but we hope they feel loved and at home at Jully Orphanage.
